Deep Transformation, Self-Worth, and the Journey of Celebration
Today, I want to talk about something deeply personal and powerful — transformation.
Self-transformation is the journey of evolving beyond our past experiences, our wounds, and the stories we once believed about ourselves.
This past week was my birthday and my wedding anniversary, a sacred time that invited deep reflection, gratitude — and grief. I want to share my story with you, not only as a way to honor my own healing, but to inspire you to reflect on your own.
Because here's the truth: you are allowed to grieve what you didn't know before. You are allowed to celebrate how far you've come.
A Story of Reflection: My Birthday and My Healing
A little backstory...
When my husband and I were planning our wedding in 1996, I suggested getting married on my birthday — the day our relationship truly began. We were young and in love, and it felt symbolic. However, since my birthday fell on a Sunday that year, we chose Saturday the 13th instead.
Every year since, my birthday and our anniversary have danced together. Friends would wish us a "Happy Anniversary" and a "Happy Birthday" almost back-to-back. It always felt sweet, but this year, something deeper stirred inside me.
As I drove home alone after celebrating, Spirit nudged me into a powerful realization:
At the time we chose our wedding date, I didn’t truly value my own birthday.
I didn’t see my worthiness to be celebrated.
Grief overwhelmed me. Tears flowed.
I realized that for most of my life, I hadn't allowed myself to celebrate "me." Childhood experiences, projections from others, and past wounds shaped a belief that my birthday — that I — wasn’t important enough.
It wasn’t until my children were older, urging me to celebrate, that I began reclaiming that lost joy. Even then, it was a learning curve. Healing doesn't happen overnight. It takes patience, grace, and tenderness.
The Deep Transformation of Self-Worth
Turning 51 this year, I gave myself the sacred permission to grieve the young Gracie who didn’t know her worth — and to celebrate the woman I have become.
In that moment of grief, I wasn’t judging her. I wasn’t shaming her. I was simply witnessing her, honoring her pain, and reminding her:
✨ You have always been worth celebrating. ✨
Through this experience, I remembered an important truth about deep healing:
Transformation is not just about fixing what feels broken.
It's about loving all the parts of you that didn’t know better before.
It’s about celebrating your growth, your choices, and your incredible resilience.
Healing, true healing, requires that we allow both grief and gratitude to exist together.
Healing Isn't Linear (And You Don't Walk Alone)
One of the greatest lessons I've learned is that healing isn’t a straight path.
There are seasons of sadness, seasons of celebration, and seasons where both intertwine beautifully.
And we are never meant to walk this path alone.
We have Spirit. We have our guides. We have trusted family, mentors, and friends who see us even when we struggle to see ourselves.
If you’re walking through a season of deep healing, I want you to remember:
You are worthy of support.
You are worthy of celebration.
You are worthy of patience and compassion.
It's not selfish to celebrate yourself.
You are the one doing the inner work.
You are the one showing up every day, growing, healing, and evolving.
The Voice of Ego and the Voice of Truth
As I reflected, I also noticed how easily the voice of ego — what I call the "Voice of Knowledge" from the teachings of Don Miguel Ruiz — can pop up during moments of vulnerability.
That inner voice tries to pull you back into old stories of unworthiness, shame, or guilt.
But now, when I hear that voice, I thank it for reminding me how far I've come.
I choose to listen instead to the voice of Spirit — the voice that tells me I am whole, I am loved, and I am allowed to celebrate my life.
Healing is a practice. It’s a devotion.
It’s a constant choosing — over and over again — to align with love instead of fear.
A Message from My Heart to Yours
